Our Services

What we do

We handle the full scope of residential landscaping. Every project — whatever the size — gets the same attention to design, materials, and construction quality.

01 · Core Service

Garden Design & Planting

This is where we add the most value. We spend time understanding how you'll use the space, what will thrive in your specific conditions — soil, sun, drainage — and how much maintenance you realistically want to do.

Plant selection is matched to your site and lifestyle, not just what looks good at the nursery. If you want a garden that largely takes care of itself, we design for that from the start with the right species, groundcovers, mulching strategy, and irrigation.

Plant selection matched to site conditions and maintenance level
Garden bed preparation, soil conditioning, and mulching
Native and drought-tolerant options for low-maintenance gardens
Space optimisation — making the most of what you've got
Seasonal planting plans that look good year-round
Projects typically start from $5,000see our full costs guide
02 · Essential

Turf & Lawn

Premium turf supply and installation — Sir Walter, TifTuf, and other varieties suited to Melbourne conditions. We don't just roll turf onto dirt. Full site prep includes soil conditioning, grading for drainage, and professional edging so your lawn stays defined.

Premium turf varieties (Sir Walter, TifTuf, Palmetto)
Full site preparation — clearing, soil conditioning, grading
Professional edging (steel, corten, aluminium)
Irrigation system to keep it healthy long-term
Projects typically start from $4,000 (100m² including prep) — see our full costs guide
03 · Structural

Retaining Walls

This is where technical knowledge matters most. Retaining walls need proper drainage, correct compaction, and the right system for the height and soil conditions. We engineer every wall for the specific conditions — timber sleeper, concrete block, and rendered systems.

Treated timber sleeper walls
Concrete block retaining systems (Adbri, Baines, Austral)
Rendered and stone-clad finishes
Agricultural drainage and weep holes
Engineer coordination for walls over 1 metre
From $250/lm (timber), $400/lm (block) — see our full costs guide
04 · Hardscape

Paving & Concreting

From bluestone paths to exposed aggregate entertaining areas. We understand substrate preparation, expansion joints, reinforcement, and drainage falls — the technical detail that separates work that lasts from work that cracks.

Exposed aggregate, honed, coloured, and broom finish concrete
Natural stone — bluestone, limestone, sandstone, granite
Porcelain outdoor tiles
Stepping stone paths with groundcover infill
Proper base preparation and drainage falls
From $140/m² (exposed agg), $130/m² (bluestone) — see our full costs guide
05 · Smart Watering

Irrigation Systems

A garden is only as good as its watering. We design and install professional irrigation systems — drip, spray, and micro systems — zoned for different plant needs. Set-and-forget watering that keeps everything healthy without waste.

Custom design for your specific garden layout
Drip, spray, and micro irrigation options
Zone-based watering for different plant needs
Smart controllers with rain sensors
Water-efficient design to minimise waste
Systems typically start from $800see our full costs guide
06 · Signature

Edging & Corten Steel

Clean edging makes the difference between a garden that looks designed and one that looks DIY. We offer everything from standard steel to our custom corten — fabricated and welded on-site for permanent, seamless lines that won't shift or separate.

Custom corten steel — welded on-site, seamless joins
Galvanised, aluminium, and powder-coated options
Concealed below-grade fixing — no visible stakes
Mowing strips and flush-level installations
From $25/lm (timber), $30/lm (corten welded) — see our full costs guide
07 · Boundaries

Fencing & Screening

Timber picket, Colorbond, slat screening, and privacy fencing. Properly footed, braced, and built to handle Melbourne wind loads. We also do feature gates and garden screens.

Timber picket fences and gates
Colorbond fencing
Timber and aluminium slat screening
Properly concreted posts — built for Melbourne conditions
From $180/lm (picket) — see our full costs guide

New Home Landscaping

Moving into a new build and staring at dirt? We handle everything — from site clearance to turf, garden beds, paths, fencing, letterbox, and clothesline. One team, one quote, done in 1–3 weeks. We coordinate with your builder if the home is still being finished.

Materials

A full home landscaping project on the Mornington Peninsula — multiple outdoor zones designed for different uses, from entertaining areas to quiet garden retreats, connected by a cohesive design that works with the natural coastal environment.

The property sits 4 metres above street level. We designed and built floating concrete steps to bridge the height difference between the street and front door, creating an attractive entry that works with the steep terrain rather than fighting it.

Planting was selected to be native and low-maintenance — creating a statement while respecting and complementing the lush natural environment and established coastal moonah trees. The result is a landscape that feels like it belongs, not one that's been imposed on it.

A new home in Ashburton with front yard and back yard areas needing landscaping. Functional spaces were needed for relaxing, dining and entertaining while softened with planting.

A tired front garden in Blackburn transformed with a new timber picket fence, bluestone path from gate to front door, and replanted garden beds. The brief was a classic, welcoming front garden with low ongoing maintenance.

The picket fence provides street presence and defines the property boundary. Bluestone pavers create a durable, attractive path. Garden beds were replanted with a mix of structured and informal planting suited to the site's conditions.

About Us

Landscapers with a building background

We started BMEL because we saw an opportunity to bring building-industry knowledge to outdoor spaces — and because we genuinely love creating natural environments that connect people to the outdoors.

About Us

Why we landscape

BMEL Landscapes brings together qualifications in architecture, civil engineering, and construction management — combined with years of hands-on experience across residential building, renovations, and landscaping.

We pursued landscaping because of a genuine passion for it. We love the practical application of design thinking and engineering knowledge in outdoor spaces — building natural environments that help people connect their indoor and outdoor living, and appreciate nature as part of their homes and daily lives.

That background means we approach every project differently. We understand how outdoor spaces connect to buildings, how to select the right materials and vegetation for each site, and how to build things so they last. Whether it's a full backyard transformation or a front garden refresh, the same knowledge and attention goes into every job.

At this stage, we do most of the work ourselves — Byron and Manny are both actively on-site for every project. For technical-specialty tasks, we work with a team of trusted professionals we've built relationships with over the years.

What We Stand For

How we work

01
Build It Right

Correct materials, suitable vegetation, proper drainage, compaction, and reinforcement. The stuff you can't see after handover is often the most important part of the job.

02
Be Honest

If your budget doesn't match your expectations, we'll tell you upfront and help you find the best outcome for what you can spend.

03
Design for the Long Term

We choose plants that will thrive, materials that will last, and irrigation that keeps everything healthy. The goal is a garden that looks better over time, not worse.

Note. All prices indicative — Melbourne eastern suburbs, 2025–2026. Actual cost depends on site access, soil conditions, and material selections. Walls over 1m may require engineering. We always provide a detailed, itemised quote before starting. 20% deposit on the first day of work, with the balance due on completion. For larger projects, progress payments are arranged — 20% or more is always invoiced after full project completion.
What Affects Price

Understanding your quote

Site access is often the biggest variable. Good rear access for a mini excavator is significantly cheaper than hand-carrying materials through a narrow side gate. This alone can add $3,000–$5,000.

Soil conditions vary across Melbourne's east — from sandy loam to heavy clay to rock. Clay needs more drainage work. Rock increases excavation costs.

Material selections give you the most direct control over budget. We always present options and explain exactly what you gain or lose at each price point.
