What's Involved

Edging that defines the whole garden

Good edging is the single most underrated element in a garden. It creates the clean lines between lawn and bed, path and planting, mulch and paving. Without it, edges blur, grass invades beds, mulch washes onto paths and the garden slowly loses its shape. With it, everything stays where it should and the garden looks maintained even between visits from the mower.

We specialise in corten steel edging because it lasts decades, welds into seamless curves and develops a warm rust patina that complements virtually any planting palette. Unlike pre-formed aluminium or plastic strips with visible joins every few metres, we cut and weld corten on-site to follow your garden's exact contours. Corners are welded, curves are rolled, and the finished line is one continuous edge with no gaps or joins. We also install timber and galvanised options where the design calls for it.

FAQ

Corten edging questions

How much does corten edging cost per metre?
Corten steel edging welded on-site typically runs $30 to $80 per lineal metre, depending on the height, thickness and complexity of the layout. Timber edging is $25 to $45 per lineal metre. Galvanised and aluminium options are also available. The price includes supply, fabrication and installation — we provide an itemised quote after measuring up on site.
What is the difference between corten, aluminium and timber edging?
Corten steel develops a stable rust patina that protects the metal underneath, giving a warm, natural finish that lasts decades without maintenance. Aluminium is lighter, does not rust and stays a consistent colour — good where you want a clean, modern line without the weathered look. Timber edging suits more natural or cottage-style gardens but has a shorter lifespan and may need replacing after eight to twelve years. We recommend corten for most projects because of its longevity and how well it complements planting.
Does corten steel keep rusting until it falls apart?
No. Corten steel is a specific alloy designed to form a stable oxide layer — the rust you see on the surface actually protects the steel underneath from further corrosion. Once the patina develops over a few months of weather exposure, it stabilises and the steel maintains its structural integrity for decades. It is a fundamentally different material from regular mild steel, which does rust progressively.
How is corten edging installed?
We cut and weld corten steel on-site to follow your garden's exact contours, including curves and corners, so there are no visible joins or gaps. The edging is set into a narrow trench and secured with steel stakes driven into the ground. The top edge sits at your chosen height above the soil or mulch line. Because we fabricate on-site, we can accommodate any layout without needing pre-made sections that leave ugly joins.
